Happy New Year!

We have had a wonderful holiday season! It has been great to be on vacation from school and work, and we've had a blast filling the time with writing, recording, and playing Christmas music at church and elsewhere. We especially enjoyed our time spent at Hearthstone Assisted Living Center, where we found one of the best audiences anywhere for sharing the joy of Christmas through some unique acoustic arrangements.

Now, we want to invite you to begin the New Year with us this Saturday, January 2, at White Rock Coffee in Dallas. At 8:00 you'll hear Robin Lore, and we take the stage from 9:30 - 11:30 (ish). This is one of our favorite venues, so it's the perfect location to kick off 2010! We'll be featuring a couple of new songs as well as the old favorites, so you won't want to miss it. Plus, just in case you need another excuse to come out, White Rock Coffee has some of the best coffee in DFW. See y'all Saturday! And Happy 2010!

Labyrinth Walk Coffee Tonight

Tonight we are priveleged to play at one of the best neo-folk/acoustic venues around: Labyrinth Walk Coffee House.  Located in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Oak Cliff, this marvelous venue hosts excellent musicians once a month, sells delicious, fair trade coffee, and even pays their musicians.  Tonight I will be opening for the very talented Wendy Colonna.  The show starts at 8:00 pm, and it's going to be a fantastic evening.  Tickets can be purchased online or at the door -- advance tickets are $12; $15 at the door or $8 for students with ID.  It would be wonderful to see you there!

Another amazing coffee place

As a coffee buff, I feel so blessed to get to play music in some of the places that I do.  A couple  of weeks ago, I had a superior cappuccino and delicious iced chai at Buon Giorno in Grapevine, where we played for a receptive and lovely audience.  This weekend, on Sept. 5th, I will be back at an old favorite, White Rock Coffee in Dallas.  White Rock has some of the best coffee anywhere.  Even if you're not that into our music, but you like a good cup of coffee, you won't regret coming to this show -- but we hope you'll come for the music too.  This Saturday, we'll have a more relaxed set, with just Adam and me on acoustic guitars.  The show starts at 8 pm with Trey Johnson, and I'll pick it up around 9:30.  I hope to see you there -- with a big cup of joe in hand!

Say "Buon Giorno" to Buon Giorno Coffeehouse

Stop by Buon Giorno coffeehouse in Grapevine this Saturday, Aug. 22 anytime between 8:15 and 11 for fantastic coffee and great music. This will be our first time to play this venue, but it comes highly recommended by all our friends who have played there. This is a crazy week for us, as I'm sure it is for many during back to school time, but we would appreciate it if you'd come take a coffee break with us this Saturday. See you then!

Down the Street Week 2009

What a wonderful few days I have had playing worship music for Reece Prairie Baptist Church's 2009 "Down the Street Week!" The event itself was wonderful; students and other church members of all ages came together to work on projects for families in need around the community. Since I work during the day, I didn't get to participate in that part of the week, but the services at night were also incredible.  We had a fantastic time working with a full band, bringing glory to God through our music. I'd just like to give a shout out to Sam and Krissi at Reece Prairie for inviting us. We had an amazing time!

Recording with cats

While typing this entry there is an adorably fuzzy cat trying as hard as she can to regain her position at the center of my universe by walking in front of the monitor and over the keyboard, her plume of a tail tickling my sensitive nose.  I love my two cats, Desmond and Molly, but this regular internet inteference is a striking example of a common theme: ordinary tasks take twice as long with two precocious felines about. This was brought home to me anew a couple of weeks ago when I decided to change my guitar strings. What had once been a routine task became an episode of "Tom and Jerry", with my twisting and turning guitar strings in the "jerry the mouse" role.  This weekend, I experienced the joys of recording in a home studio that is shared by two cats.  Desmond, the vocal one, felt the need to sing some strange and dissonant harmonies; Molly clearly believed that the microphone stand and the cable hanging from it were both new cat toys. A lot can go wrong in a recording session when there are no interruptions; adding cats to the mix is like -- well, like asking for cats to be literally added to the mix. So we began work on one song, "Girl on a String," and for the most part things went well. But don't be surprised if you play the final recording only to detect a plaintive and distinctive "meow" coming through in a verse or two.

Thanks, Absinthe Lounge!

Just a note to say thanks to the good people of Absinthe Lounge for having us out to play. The bartender, Tracy, was especially kind and helpful. Our next gig will be four days of leading worship music at Reece Prairie Baptist Church's annual "Down the street week," where church members participate in various projects benefitting Burleson and the surrounding areas, then come back to the church for worship through fellowship, music, and teaching. This is going to be a wonderful gig. We will have a full band, and I will be surrounded by some of my favorite people, doing one of my favorite things! The event takes place July 26th-29th. For more info., see www.rpbc.org.

Absinthe Lounge tonight

Tonight I will be performing at the Absinthe Lounge in Dallas. This is a charming place in the basement of the Lamar South Side building. (The also popular spot for troubadors, Opening Bell Coffee, is next door). The ambience of this lovely hole-in-the wall provides the perfect spot to unwind after a long Monday or to give insomniacs a "clean, well-lighted place" in which to while away the wee hours. I play from 9-1, and I promise a fantastic show. Hope to see you there.
