Thankful

It's been a week this concert, and I'm still living off the high of the fun music, the friendly faces, and the deep sense of connection with the audience, with the music, and with God that I felt as we played this show.

So, thanks. Concerts don't happen without people to attend them. Art isn't really complete until it's shared, and, in that sharing, new meanings and layers are added to that art. This idea is especially true with live music. Any given performance could vary wildly from night to night, and a huge source of that variation is the energy the performer receives from the people in attendance. Last week, we fed off your amazing, supportive energy, friends, and it made for a great show.

Special thanks to Nick Mungia for playing drums with us; to Terry Fansler, David Naugle, and Philip Mitchell and to Dallas Baptist University for hosting and making the event possible; to the band for their hard work and practice; and to our faithful companions -- my mom and nephew -- for giving of their time and energy. You all rock.

Dallas Does Carole King and James Taylor

Finding music that the whole family can enjoy is difficult, especially when some of those family members are musicians and some are -- well -- not. That's why I'll always remember the time I was enjoying an evening with some family members, flipping through TV channels, and we came across a special broadcast of the 2010 Troubadour Reunion Tour with Carole King and James Taylor. I thought that someone would ask us (us being Adam and I, the musicians in the room, who happened to have the remote control) to change the channel, but instead, all of us were riveted by the incredible musicianship, easy stage-camaraderie, and, perhaps most of all, hit after hit after great hit, performed expertly and joyfully by Carole King, James Taylor, and their fantastic band. When we found out that the next "Dallas Does" concert was going to be an evening filled with covers of the music of these two, we immediately signed on. King and Taylor have performed together their entire careers, and she is responsible for many of his hit songs as well as the hit songs of a great many other artists from the sixties -- including the dance hit, "Locomotion." The combined talents of these two great artists made one of the best concerts I've ever seen, and I have no doubt that the group of Dallas songwriters and performers you will hear at the end of this month will combine their talents with the great music of King and Taylor to bring you one of the best evenings of music you'll find. Tourette Syndrome Scholarship Benefit Show

We are honored to be sharing the stage with some wonderful singer-songwriters for the first (and we hope not last) benefit concert for a new tourette syndrome scholarship fund. Read all about the scholarship here. This scholarship has been set up by the fabulous musician, Tito Ortega, whose music you will also get to hear at the concert. There is no cover charge for the event, but participants are encouraged to donate, as all donations will go to the scholarship fund. The show is on March 31st at Opening Bell Coffee. We go on at 7:30, but you should come early and stay late to hear all the great musicians and enjoy the delicious beverages and lovely atmosphere of Opening Bell.
